There's a bandaid solution, but it'll come back
Reddit users have taken to the platform to express their frustration with a lock screen problem that has arisen after installing Android 15 Beta 3. According to reports, swiping away or tapping on a notification on the lock screen unexpectedly brings up the number pad (PIN) screen. This issue also affects the camera app on the lock screen and activating the flashlight, with a temporary solution being to restart the device. Android 15 testers who have enrolled in the beta program have reported a severe problem that renders their device's lock screen useless. According to a post on Reddit (via 9to5Google), users are encountering frustrating issues when trying to dismiss or interact with notifications on the lock screen in Beta 3. The original poster explains that whenever they swipe away a notification on their lock screen, the number pad for their PIN continuously appears on their device. Furthermore, this problem seems to occur every time they attempt to interact with a notification. The user adds that when deleting multiple notifications, they have to swipe left to delete one, then swipe from the edge to exit the number pad, and only then can they delete the next notification. Other users have also shared similar experiences, indicating that the issue extends beyond notifications. One user mentions that when they try to open the camera app to take a quick photo, their phone's credentials display appears instead. Another user adds that attempting to activate the flashlight triggers the same bug. This issue has been observed on one device enrolled in the beta program. Restarting the Pixel device seems to temporarily resolve the problem, acting as a bandaid solution. Several users in Beta 3 have reported encountering this problem on their Pixel 6 Pro and Pixel 7 devices, with others likely affected as well. The issue has been posted on the Issue Tracker, in hopes that Google will address it as the beta progresses.
Last week, Google initiated the rollout of Android 15 Beta 3, marking a significant achievement in terms of "Platform Stability." This development brings us one step closer to the forthcoming major OS launch. The initial release of Beta 3 introduced a few notable features, such as enhanced passkeys and the inclusion of Credentials Manager. Testers now have the opportunity to explore the convenience of single-step sign-in capabilities using biometrics like their fingerprint.
Additionally, this update incorporates autofill suggestions through the keyboard when utilizing the Credentials Manager.
According to Google's detailed update, Android 15 is progressing according to plan. Platform Stability testing will continue until July, during which we can anticipate further minor patches and another beta version. As of now, Google has not yet specified a potential release date, so we will have to wait and see how the pieces fall into place.
